In 1740, Edmund Halley set out on an expedition north to prove that the Earth was hollow. His disappearance was followed by the sudden appearance of an unknown island in the North Sea. The Scots, who named it Rocabarraigh, established a bustling fishing village there, but in 1909 it disappeared again without a trace, along with every man, woman and child from its mud-covered streets. The fishing industry lost hundreds of veterans that day, and it's up to you to step in and replace them, even if the sea is no longer as hospitable as it once was.
What did Halley do on his expedition to the North? What did he set in motion? What if the Earth was empty and the people who inhabited it were eager to get out? What if this was the... You know what? It's not your problem. Focus on fishing.
Deep Regrets is a strategic horror fishing game for 1-5 players that takes about 30 minutes per player. Decide what to eat, what to sell, what to mount, and how many regrets you are willing to carry with you as you push yourself too far and head toward madness and a thrilling victory at sea... or an early end to your career.
Inspired by stories like The Shadow of Innsmouth, John Langan's The Fisherman, the Hellboy series, and video games like Dredge and Bloodborne (and maybe a little Scooby Doo), Deep Regrets is set in a fictionalized version of early 20th-century Europe, where Edmund Halley's Hollow Earth theory might be correct. It's a world of lonely fishermen with heavy regrets weighing on their consciences and gruesome monstrosities weighing on their lines. The waters are haunted by unsavory reimaginings of classic British and European folklore. Strange events have upset the balance of nature and made the seas a dangerous place for the people who depend on them for their trade.
During the game you will spend a week moving between the sea and the port, trying to fish the most desirable trap of fish and related creatures. You will have to manage energy, resources and regrets and challenge your luck to get the best possible loot. At the end of the game, you will get a score for the fish in your hand, for those in the barrels and for the remaining Fishbucks... while the player with the most regrets will lose his most valuable fish.
