Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is dead. His last conscious act on his deathbed was composing the Lacrimosa movement of his Opus Requiem. You, as one of his sponsors, will meet with his widow to participate one last time in financing the works of the Austrian genius. You will also remember and recount all your memories together with Mozart, to make sure he portrays you in the best light when he writes his memoirs, and go down in history as Mozart's most important patron.
In Lacrimosa, musicians will take on the roles of patrons of the late musician, contributing their funding to the composer's works one last time. During the game, you will play in two different timelines: the present and the past. In the present, you commission the missing parts of the Requiem from other composers to complete it. As the past events unfold, the game will take place in five eras where you will contribute by purchasing new compositions from the composer to sell or exhibit, accompanying him on various journeys through the major courts and theaters of Europe, and gathering the resources you need in order to support the musician throughout his career.
During the game you will play cards from a limited hand that you will improve as the game progresses. These cards can be played both as actions and as resource generators and players will have to optimize their resources and finances to support our best version of the story and our relationship with Mozart.
