In Dune, you become the commander of one of six great factions. Each covets the universe’s most precious resource: melange, the mysterious spice found only on the planet Dune. But at what cost? As Duke Leto Atreides says, “All this pales in comparison to melange. A handful of the spice will buy you a house on Tupile. It cannot be artificially manufactured; it must be mined on Arrakis. It is unique, and its geriatric properties are undisputed.” And without the spice, space travel would be impossible. The Guild Navigators can only continue to see visions of the future by ingesting this addictive substance, thus granting them the ability to traverse the safest paths of hyperspace.
