People love to travel. We want to experience new cultures, see famous landmarks with our own eyes, and taste world cuisine. One of the most enjoyable ways to explore a new city is… simply by taking a walk. But how do you plan a sightseeing itinerary that will please everyone? Here’s the answer!
En Route is a flip-and-write game where you create tourist itineraries for the most interesting landmarks in real-world cities (London, New York City, Hong Kong, Paris, Cairo, and Rio de Janeiro) and the fictional First City full of geeky references. Each city has its own core and specific mechanics, so they all play and feel different.
The cards are not turned over randomly, but an active player plays a card face up and two players next to him secretly choose a card each. Then, an active player selects one of the two and discards the other. After that, all players use the coordinates and other information from the two cards left on the table to draw their tourists and their routes.
During the game, route segments are drawn, connecting different types of tourists to various landmarks and attractions. A game of En Route lasts exactly 10 rounds. At the end of the game, each landmark on the final route will earn players Prestige Points according to its rules. Whoever creates the most satisfying tourist route, wins!
The game features constant and fairly intense interaction between players, and players have a fair amount of control and can strategize. It plays fast, dynamically, and makes you constantly think about what your opponents want to do (and sometimes even negotiate so that they play cards that are advantageous to you!).
