This new updated version of the classic LCG base set, increases its content and introduces some improvements. It is the perfect opportunity for all new players to dive into this exciting game. It contains everything you need to get started, including all the cards and components to jump right into four-player games.
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a collaborative Living Card Game set in Middle-earth, the fantastical world created by the fertile mind of JRR Tolkien. Players will form companies to undertake epic quests, travel through dangerous places and face ferocious enemies such as orcs, giant spiders and the feared nazgul.
Each player chooses up to three heroes and builds a deck of cards that represent their strengths, abilities, tools, and allies. During each round, you will have a wide variety of options:
Play ally and addition cards to power up your heroes.
assign your characters to quests.
travel to various places.
and defend yourself from enemy attacks before launching your own.
All the while, you'll need to keep your heroes healthy and carefully monitor your Threat value, which is the number that represents the Eye of Sauron's influence on you. This value will increase each round, and if it reaches 50 or your heroes are defeated, you'll be eliminated from the game!
Depending on the sphere of influence that the heroes are tied to, a particular style of play will be adopted and the most interesting thing is that you will not be limited to just one sphere when composing your deck! In fact, you can mix and match heroes from different spheres to create your own unique deck.
For the most part, the updated core set for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is the same game that countless fans have known and loved for the past decade, though, much like the novel that inspired it, it has received a completely new translation from Asmodee Italia. However, this updated core set includes three types of cards that are brand new to the game: campaign cards, boons, and burdens.
These types of cards are used in the new campaign mode included in the updated Core Set. In this mode, players will be able to play the Core Set scenarios in sequential order, and the results of each scenario can influence the outcome of the next!
