It is the 3rd century AD in the area of the present-day Middle East. Resafa lies in ruins today in modern-day Syria, but at the time it was a fortified outpost in the desert, which flourished as a stopover along important caravan routes.
In the game, players represent merchants who travel on business and buy and sell goods in the various cities of the region. Resafa had no local water sources, so it relied heavily on large cisterns to collect the spring and winter rainwater that made the area habitable. Players build cisterns and canals to distribute water where it is needed. In cities, they build workshops to grow their businesses, which will allow them to gather resources and camels. They also build gardens between businesses, generating more resources and also victory points.
The game is played over six rounds. In each round, a player takes only three actions, playing action cards in tight and exciting games.
